Gohei Ōji (大路 吾平 Ōji Gohei) is Mochizō's father, who runs the Ōji-ya shop.[1]

Appearance Edit

01

Gohei is a man in his early thirties. He never has his eyes truly open, and has a slight mustache. His hair is behind his ears, reaching some inches below them.

He is often seen in t-shirts with English phrases and jeans.

Personality Edit

In contrast to the owner across the street regarding Mochizō as a spy whenever he comes over, Gohei welcomes Tamako and is on friendly terms with her. He prefers modern tastes, and enjoys incorporating English into his workplace.[1][2]

He refers to his son as "my junior", re-named Ōji-ya Ricecake Oh! Zee, and has a product called "Love You Forever" mochi.[3] He is seen as more laidback, though was visually upset in his son's decision to go to Tokyo to study film, turning his head dramatically and ignoring him in a manner that was perceived as childish, and vented his worries at the bar with Mamedai.[3]

Relationships Edit

  • Mamedai Kitashirakawa: They often argue with each other, something that occasionally breaks out into minor physical fights.[3] Their contrasting views on mochi-making causes this, with Mamedai being too traditional. Despite this, Mamedai has said that he often goes out drinking with him.[2]
  • Mochizō Ōji: Mochizō is Gohei's son, and often breaks up the fights (or simply watches if it does not become physical) the latter has with Mamedai.[3] Gohei was frustrated when learning Mochizō was moving to Tokyo to a university, giving his son the silent treatment although failed under certain circumstances. It is inferred from the incident that Gohei does love his son.[3]
